Joined by Beatrix Vale from the Slut Next Door Podcast, we navigate the murky waters around the criticism and mockery often tied to our beloved pumpkin spice. We also discuss the incredible versatility of pumpkins, their potential health benefits, and the myriad of ways to celebrate this spooky season with some Halloween-inspired activities and unique recipes. So, join me and my friends Smutty, Pandita, and Beatrix Vale, as we delve into our relationships with Pumpkin Spice Season. This episode is a must-listen for all pumpkin spice enthusiasts and skeptics alike, offering different perspectives on this seasonal favorite.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Kinky Eater, where adult content creators talk about food, sex, kink and oralism. Today it's all about pumpkin spice. Yes, indeed, it is fall, so let's give them pumpkin to talk about. It's another gourd just day and all hollows. Eve is upon us. It's been and still is pumpkin spice season, whether you like it or not.

Speaker 1:

Oh goodness, how early did it start this year. I didn't note it down, but I want to say it was like early September or even maybe end of August that we started seeing all these pumpkin spice flavors coming out and Starbucks starting to roll out that seasonal stuff. So I don't know, I could be wrong, but I swear that's what I did. Or maybe it's just my mind, because every year for the past decade it seems as though the pumpkin spice flavors started occupying the shelves and menus sort of everywhere we go just early and earlier. Just, it started just coming out earlier and earlier. And they know, the industry knows that people will buy.

Speaker 1:

Also, joining me on the podcast today, I've got three friends from the audio community. These girls are great performers Smuddy Pandita and Miss Beatrix Vale. You'll hear a bit from them on the subject matter today and then I promise you, if you stick to the end, you'll hear a little bit more about them and where you can find them. Trust me, you're going to want to. And guess what? It's the 20th anniversary of the PSL, the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. Yeah, the first PSL was made and sold in fall of 2003 at Starbucks locations in Washington DC and Vancouver. So you know, you know, it's that delicious coffee drink. It's got the mix of traditional fall spice flavors like cinnamon, nutmeg, clove. It's got some steamed milk in there, espresso sugar, sometimes no sugar. It's topped, usually topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice. Is there actual pumpkin in it? I don't think so. I do believe, though, that when it was first created, they were originally mixing in, you know, pumpkin puree or pieces of pumpkin, I think.

Speaker 1:

Or yeah had to be pumpkin puree, I think.

Speaker 3:

I don't know.

Speaker 1:

Anyway, peter Dukes is credited as one of the founders of this pumpkin-y burst of stimulation. Dukes was a former product manager for Starbucks when his team founded the PSL in 2003. Dukes now holds the esteemed position of director of global growth and concepts for the Seattle coffee chain. What I didn't realize is that Starbucks peppermint mocha was created and sold prior to the PSL. Yeah, I mean apparently that peppermint mocha, when it came out for the holidays, was popular enough or so popular that their product development team was like, hey, let's led by Dukes. It was like, hey, let's go for other holidays.

Speaker 1:

Let's get them. We got them already. Let's pull them in. Let's create more so we can keep them. Yeah, I mean, that's exactly what they did. I actually don't drink the peppermint mocha. I don't. I'm not a big fan of peppermint, for whatever reason. Candy canes I don't even. I don't even eat those. I'm not a big candy eater, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Well depends, I think. Certain candies, you know, but also they, I think. Starbucks has the new iced apple crisp oat shaken espresso. I've never had it. They also have the iced pumpkin cream chai tea latte. So if you like chai tea and want some pumpkin in there, they've got that. It got everything for you. So many drinks there. I did read somewhere that there's I think 170,000 different drink combinations and I swear I was listening to a podcast the other day stating that there were like a billion plus different combinations.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if there's that many, I mean, you have more of a chance of winning the lottery than there are Starbucks drink combinations according to that podcast, and maybe it's, maybe it's like a million different combinations. I swear I heard billion. Whatever. I'm sure it's not true, nor do I care, but that's just mind blowing. I feel like they should pay those baristas more. It's kind of ridiculous. I mean I can't even imagine the training that they have to go through, the baristas, to be able to know what to do with all those combinations. And then there's like a secret menu, right? You guys know about that secret menu. I don't know anything about it, but so unpopular but also probably popular opinion. It's a mixed bag.

Speaker 1:

But pumpkin season for me has lost its luster. I'm definitely not as hype as I used to be for pumpkin season. My transition from a vanilla sweet cream cold brew, which is, has lately been my drink of choice for the past couple of years in the morning. My transition from that drink to a pumpkin spice cold brew or pumpkin cream cold brew, I think it's called, or a PSL if I want something hot, isn't a big deal anymore. It's not not a big deal. I don't necessarily look forward to the switch like I used to. Having said that, as long as it's available, I'm going to order the pumpkin cream cold brew over the vanilla sweet cream cold brew. Or if I want something hot, I'm going to order the PSL over the classic caramel macchiato. I do love a caramel macchiato. Funny enough, I also love drinking coffee black Stooshes. Anyway, I asked a few friends in the erotic audio community to weigh in on the spices of four and with the gourd. One of them is my friend Smuddy, and here's a quickie about her relationship to pumpkin spice Music.

Speaker 4:

Earlier this month I walked into the grocery store and as I was shopping I could smell it in the air Pumpkin spice. I went down the bread aisle and found English muffins pumpkin spice flavor and immediately grabbed two. I was so excited.

Speaker 1:

Wow, pumpkin spice flavored English muffins. This is like the British invasion, but with pumpkins. It's the pumpkin-ish invasion, the pumpkin movement of the 2000s, composed of anything and everything having pumpkin spice sprinkled on it, spreading rapidly across the United States and beyond. It can be overwhelming. I asked Smuddy about what she thought of the resistance.

Speaker 4:

I'm sorry. It's. Fall is coming and this is a feat we have to accept. Every year. Pumpkin spice is pumpkin pie, it is cinnamon, it is nutmeg, it is ginger and cloves, and all of these spices are so good and anybody who has hate in their heart for delicious spices, they just need to chill the fuck out. Yo, I'm just saying Life is too short not to masticate some delicious pumpkin spice. I am living for it. I will die for it. This is the hill I have climbed. Fight me. This is Smut Girl, aka Smuddy. Thank you.

Speaker 1:

I wonder if Smuddy likes pumpkin spice. Oh my God, she loves fall. There's no doubt in my mind she loves it. It's part of her lifestyle. Life is gourd when it's pumpkin season. I love Smuddy's voice. Another take from the erotic audio world. My friend Pandita is a big time baker. When I asked Pandita about her relationship to pumpkin and pumpkin spice, I was not at all surprised to hear her take on the fall delicacy.

Speaker 3:

Hi, this is Pandita, or on Reddit, naughtypandita. I am a big fan of pumpkin spice. However, you will not find me ordering a pumpkin spice latte, but that's only because I'm not really much of a coffee drinker at all. But I love to bake and there are so many good recipes with pumpkin that I absolutely love. I love making pumpkin muffins. Pumpkin cheesecake is so good. There's a great recipe for pumpkin gooey butter cakes. That's just phenomenal. Also, there's all these dips that you can make too, with cream cheese and marshmallow fluff and, of course, the canned pumpkin. And you always have to get just the pure pumpkin, because the pumpkin pie filling is just awful. But there's so many different things that you can do and I love, love, love all the different flavors and especially all the spices cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, it just all of those spices go so well with pumpkin and I just I love everything about fall baking, so I am definitely team pumpkin all the way.

Speaker 1:

So far. We've just heard from two lovers of the pumpkin season. One of the things that amazes me is the buy-in from the community, which has then, of course, resulted in the buy-in from retailers across your guides, greener, it's fully expected that everywhere you go you're going to be exposed to something, something pumpkiny goodness. So in talking about pumpkin spice, you know, and how pervasive it is and how it's just taken over and everything is pumpkin, everything you know. Great for the pumpkin, oh my gosh. But looking at a lot of the stores, one of my favorite stores is Trader Joe's and nobody goes all in to me like Trader Joe's does. I mean they went all in. I mean I can't fault Trader Joe's for being so crafty and concocting like such a large menu of pumpkin items.

Speaker 1:

There's an extensive list that seems to never end. There's so many items I don't even count. I did list it and I'm about to read them off and it's all just pumpkin stuff. And you know they've got like and I didn't even list everything They've got the butternut squash items and the cinnamon items and the apple cinnamon items all for the fall, kind of went through there and scrubbed it for just the pumpkin stuff. I mean the list really doesn't stop. But hey, let's go through some of it, and I'm pretty sure that you guys might be pumpkined out already I mean, halloween's close, but who knows, some of you guys, I love it or just eat it up. There's more than 50 items and that's just pumpkin stuff. They've got the butternut squash items and the cinnamon items and the apple cinnamon items. It really doesn't stop, although I think I did add some of that deliciousness to this list as well.

Speaker 1:

I tried to mostly make it the pumpkin stuff Okay. So I'm going to try to go through this list pretty fast. Since it's such a long list, I may stop along the way to talk about some of it, but I promise you I will get through it quickly. Okay, here we go. Pumpkin bread mix, pumpkin cranberry crisps, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin whole the cone, which are actually sugar cone ice cream cones in pumpkin flavor. So it's not enough that they have pumpkin ice cream, but you got to have pumpkin sugar cones.

Speaker 1:

Caramel apple mochi ice cream. Okay, so that's a fall item. I had to add it because I love mochi ice cream. I would have thought pumpkin mochi ice cream. Maybe that wasn't the thing, maybe it didn't work in the test lab, but apparently caramel apple mochi ice cream works. I think I've got to try it.

Speaker 1:

Spatched cocked sweet savory chicken. That is a fall item. There is no pumpkin in it, but I love spatched cocked chicken. It's like spatched cocked cock, but that chicken is good. I think I'm going to try this one too. Normally they have it, I think, with some kind of orange flavor, and I forgot what the theme is there. But let's go on.

Speaker 1:

Nandere pumpkin oat beverage. Pumpkin bisque, pumpkin butternut squash bisque, apple and pumpkin hand pies. I got to love. Let me stop there. I love hand pies. They are from the south and usually you can get them with sweet potatoes or something like that, or yams and just a little hand pies. They're really almost like empanadas but intended to be like a dessert.

Speaker 1:

Pumpkin spice coffee. Many pumpkin ginger scones fall harvest the salsa to go with your pumpkin tortilla chips. Pumpkin maple bacon flavored stuffies. These are actually dog treats. Very nice Trader Joe's getting into the dog treat business. I love it.

Speaker 1:

Pumpkin overnight face mask Okay, hold on, this is beauty Beauty products here. Now They've got some pumpkin beauty products. I don't do face masks Maybe I should, but if you like face masks you might as well try pumpkin overnight. One right. Atominal harvest creamy pasta sauce. Gluten free pumpkin bread and muffin mix. Atominal harvest soup. Harvest blend herbal tea. You should check to see if there's any pumpkin in it. I'm not sure.

Speaker 1:

Pumpkin spice Roy Boss tea. Roy Boss, okay, this is a South African tea and Roy Boss means red bush. So this tea is naturally non caffeinated tea and they now have pumpkin spice flavor. Roy Boss tea. Pumpkin cream cheese spread. Holy cow, I wonder if they have pumpkin bagels, pumpkin biscotti, to go with your pumpkin coffee, pumpkin Jojo's. Jojo's are their Trader Joe's version of Oreos, basically sandwich cookies with the cream in the middle, sandwich cream cookies, halloween Jojo's. So not the pumpkin kind, but basically chocolate flavored Jojo's but shaped and designed like a pumpkin Petite pumpkin spice cookies. Pumpkin body butter again more beauty products Vanilla, pumpkin hand soap and hand lotion.

Speaker 1:

There we go. Pumpkin pie, spice seasoning, of course, pumpkin spice cream, liquor, pumpkin overnight oats oh, I love this one. These are TJ's or Trader Joe's pumpkin cereal bars. This one is called. This pumpkin walks into a bar, pumpkin cereal bars. This pumpkin walks into a bar. That's a great product name. That's because I love the puns. Yeah, um, pecan pumpkin oatmeal. Do you say pecan? Or pecan? Pumpkin flavored dog treats. Another dog treat product Pumpkin brioche twist. That sounds good. Anything brioche is good to me.

Speaker 1:

Okay, here's one the O&H Bakery Pumpkin Kringle. Trader Joe's does sell pretty much all year round the Danish Kringle, but for fall they made a pumpkin Kringle. There you go. Yeah, la Colombe. Pumpkin spice draft latte in a can. Pumpkin spiced pumpkin seeds, vanilla, pumpkin scented candles. Pumpkin cheesecake. Chocolate mousse pumpkin. These are chocolate cakes layered with a silky mousse, orange colored shape like a pumpkin, so it's not really pumpkin flavor. Pumpkin Greek nonfat yogurt. A gourd tree pumpkin cider Gotta get that cider. Howling gourd's pumpkin ale. That sounds delicious. I'm gonna have to try that.

Speaker 1:

Pumpkin O's. This is Trader Joe's whole grain, gluten-free, vegan cereal version of Cheerio's pumpkin O's. Pumpkin waffles. Mini spicy pumpkin samosas Wow, if you love Indian food and you love samosas, look what they made for you Mini spicy pumpkin samosas. Amazing Pumpkin butter. Spiced pumpkin Madeleine cookies.

Speaker 1:

Pumpkin pancake and waffle mix. Gluten-free pumpkin pancake mix. Organic canned pumpkin. Organic pumpkin spice granola bark. Pumpkin chocolate chunk Oatmeal cookie mix. Pumpkin bagels Duh, why on earth would you make pumpkin cream cheese if you didn't make pumpkin bagels, please? Well done, gluten-free pumpkin spice bagels. There you go. There's a gluten-free version. Pumpkin cheesecake croissants. Well then, might need to try that. Pumpkin sticky toffee cakes. Okay, that sounds decent. I need to try that. Honey roasted pumpkin ravioli Also has the gluten-free version. Pumpkin spiced teeny tiny pretzels these are pretzels with a yogurt flavored coating and crushed pumpkin spiced pumpkin seeds on top. Pumpkin spice batons I do believe these are like the pro-fitter rolls that you could have with coffee, let's say in the morning. Maybe you have them with some ice cream or something or yogurt. I'm not sure I usually eat them with ice cream. I've had them with coffee. So yeah, pumpkin spiced batons, pumpkin spiced Jojo's More pumpkin spice sandwich cookies, except these sandwich cookies have a yogurt flavored coating with sea salt. Pumpkin blonde brownies and pumpkin gnocchi. Oh man, I love gnocchi.

Speaker 1:

I will say that all the gnocchis that I've tried with any sort of like sweet potato or anything like that is not as good as when you have it with like a regular potato, which is more starchy. I think it holds up a little better. So let's dive a little deeper into the pumpkin ravioli, because I feel like out of all these, that is what I could eat right now. The pumpkin ravioli has sweet pumpkins that have been slathered with honey, brown sugar and molasses. It's roasted, pureed and blended with ricotta and mozzarella cheeses. The honey roasted filling is then packed into square all colored pasta pillows. Pumpkin ravioli. That sounds delightful and I think I'm going to try some.

Speaker 1:

Okay that was a lot. I mean, what a list. It's both impressive and ridiculous. You could really live your best pumpkin life shopping in there. I mean, can?

Speaker 1:

you imagine all these pumpkin lovers going feral in the TJs. Oh man, but like back to me, right, I'm still indifferent. I'm always going to order the PSL or the pumpkin cream cold brew when it's available, but I don't feel one way or another about its arrival or departure. Yeah, I mean later pumpkin. Or hey, pumpkin, welcome back, I'm going to have you and then later, pumpkin, see you next year. Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at. We're going to take a quick break. Hope you stick around.

a sneak preview of the episode where I take my friend and audio porn creator TBDL out to stuff our faces with fat juicy meats. Here's a sneak preview of the episode where I take my friend and audio porn creator TBDL out to stuff our faces with fat juicy meats.

Speaker 1:

So I'm curious you know that's like. It's not unlike your journey or adventure with kink right Because you just try new things.

Speaker 2:

Exactly, lour, look at these things don't look so good. Right, things look good, or I'll try that, yeah, I'm willing to.

Speaker 1:

I don't like it. I'm never gonna eat it again. I'm never gonna do it again.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. My experience with tomatoes and onions is very similar to my idea of degradation. I mean if there's like small amounts of it in it and I can't really tell. Sure, that's fine. If it is the primary thing. That is flavor in it. Oh my God, I'm gonna cry.

Speaker 2:

So like there's no way you could have this caprese salad because of the tomatoes right there, it's right in my face, right in your face, and that's like straight up degradation.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, like how pathetic are you. It doesn't taste good, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2:

Exactly.

Speaker 1:

All right, welcome back. Thanks for sticking around. It just went over that long exhaustive Trader Joe's list, but hey, we still got one more friend to talk to. For another, take my friend Beatrix Vale.

Speaker 3:

Hmm.

Speaker 1:

I love. Bb is the host of the slut next door podcast. It's one of my favorite kinky podcasts. I asked her about what she thought of the whole pumpkin phenomenon.

Speaker 5:

Hi, my name is Beatrix Vale and I'm here to give my opinions and thoughts on pumpkin and pumpkin spice. So I'll start with this. I tend to not want to like things that other people go crazy about.

Speaker 1:

B, you're speaking my language. I've always been the type to buck the crowd. Be different, be original, be a leader and not a follower has always been in my MO. I asked B to give an example.

Speaker 5:

Really unrelated, but Game of Thrones I have not watched yet. I want to watch it, but I didn't watch it when it came out because I didn't want to be like everyone else. That's really silly. It really is silly, but I can't help it. I don't want to be like everyone else. The current craze with pumpkin spice kind of annoys me because it's connected to females, right that once October hits pumpkin spice, everything, candles, drinks, whatever.

Speaker 1:

Miss Beatrix has a point. It's not lost on me that there are some underlying issues with some opinions about pumpkin spice season, and it's been identified for a long time. Back in 2016, a redditor named Eric Jensen posted pumpkin spice hate season is coming again, so here's a reminder from a historian. What we call pumpkin spice is just the classic English and Anglo-American sweet spice mix Cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom and mace.

Speaker 1:

It's been used in traditional desserts, from apple pie to plum pudding, for centuries. When did people start having a problem with it? Not when women were in the kitchen putting it in their pies, but when women decided they liked it in the coffee they grabbed on the way to school or work. So when you see people snickering at the pumpkin spice products this fall, remember what they're mocking Women choosing something for their own pleasure rather than devoting themselves to pleasing others. Ah, a very poignant post, is it not?

Speaker 1:

In December 2021, an article from the Manch Union stated that in popular culture, the PSL has become synonymous with the basic teenage girl who plasters it over her Instagram in an autumnal aesthetic. It's derided as basic, along with rhapsodizing about crunched leaves, chunky knits, big scarves and new boots. The idea there is a predominantly male tendency to mock, the predominantly female enthusiasm for the arrival of spiced orange beverages this time of year. The idea that if teenage girls enjoy something, it is immediately mocked, criticized and made out to be ridiculous. And it's true. Teenage girls are mocked incessantly for their interests. When women and teenagers begin to take an interest in something, it's instantly stripped of serious meaning and categorized as futile. And, for example, astrology was developed by the Babylonians around 2400 years ago. The article goes on to say it has increased in popularity, particularly among millennial women. However, its feminization has led inevitably to its mockery. The author wondered if it would be the same story if the main PSL-loving demographic were men. The article concluded with a sobering realization, which is this if we continuously mock teenage girls for their interests, we risk also ending the message that their ideas are ridiculous too.

Speaker 1:

I don't disagree. I can't say that I disagree at all. I do see this. We see this in many aspects of life and, honestly, if you have a hard time recognizing it, I would take a hard look at yourself and take some time to self-reflect. Try to understand where your point of view came from. Having said all this, I've never hated the PSL, but, as I said before, b was absolutely speaking my language. I've always strived to be different and to not be a follower. It's just that when it comes around, yeah, I'm ordering something pumpkin flavored from Starbucks, especially because I love that sugary sweetness in my coffee every fall. Yeah, but with me and Ms Beatrix on the same page about the pumpkin wave, I wanted to understand what she thought about the actual taste.

Speaker 5:

So my opinions, though. On the actual taste, I do like it, not so much of a pumpkin spice drink person. I like the baked goods, like pumpkin bread oh my god, perfection. Like the one at Starbucks. Holy shit, warm that thing up, it is just pure heaven in my mouth. Or those pumpkin spice rolls with the cream cheese deliciousness inside, so good.

Speaker 1:

What about pumpkin pie? I mean, I'm more of a sweet potato guy myself, but what about pumpkin pie?

Speaker 5:

Pumpkin pie. I'm on the fence about like I'll do it, I'll commit to it, but I don't particularly love it. Oh, and going back to the pumpkin bread at Starbucks, I will order that any time of the year because that's how I roll. I'm a rebel. I will order a pumpkin bread slice from Starbucks end the summer and not give A fuck. And I will say, when it comes to pumpkin spice, sometimes it can be like too spicy, like it has almost too much sharpness to it. I want it to be sweet and I guess lightly spicy. That makes sense. Oh, the other thing that I love that comes out during the fall season is pumpkin spice butter. I don't know if it's called pumpkin spice butter, but anyways, that stuff is so good. Toast some bread and spread that on there, or even on a sweet potato. Oh my gosh, so delicious.

Speaker 1:

Ooh, pumpkin spice butter. Good Lord, that sounds amazing, you're turning me on.

Speaker 1:

I mean thanks for turning me on. I mean thanks for turning me on to. That Sounds delicious.
